Lights, camera, action! These three words, dating back to the early days of film making, have enriched countless numbers of lives, and left indelible impressions on billions of people for more than a century.

Movies feed our hearts, minds, and souls. It’s why “Come Play Outside” is excited to announce: “Summer Movies in the Park” are back in town! Pack a picnic, dust off your lawn chair, and find your favorite blanket because hit feature films are coming – for free — to a neighborhood near you. For more than a decade, the County of San Diego and City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Departments have worked together to provide free movies at community parks throughout the summer.  This year the program is bigger and better than ever!

It’s all happening as part of Mayor Todd Gloria’s great “Summer for All of Us” initiative bringing local families and friends together in a healthy, fun and safe environment.

Every Friday at dusk starting on June 25th, you’ll be able to make new memories while watching blockbusters outside in our amazing climate. Whether it’s “Raya and the Last Dragon,” “Black Panther,” “Frozen 2,” or “The Croods,” there’s a movie for you. Don’t miss the chance to round up your neighbors, snuggle up and watch your favorite flick in San Diego’s parks, which are the crown jewels of our region.

We’re so grateful to  Mayor Todd Gloria, Chair Nathan Fletcher, Supervisor of San Diego County’s Fourth District and for the generosity of Price Philanthropies, Albertsons Foundation, Hervey Family Foundation, and the Walmart Foundation. Be sure to thank your local San Diego City Councilmember who has joined this esteemed group to help to make this program possible.

Fellow San Diegans, we’ve all been through a lot with the pandemic, and our resilience has made it possible for us to get to the other side. Let’s celebrate our communities by coming together, watching movies, and closing out the summer of 2021 with a bang — I hope you’ll join me under the stars!
